Probiotics for Gut Health

If you suffer from IBS, constipation, diarrhoea or bloating,  introducing a probiotic is essential.  It effectively acts as your good bacteria and will help take over the bad guys. We have over 100 trillion good and bad bacteria within our gut microbiome. If the bad bacteria starts taking over this is when you will start to experience symptoms such as bloating, constipation, diarrhoea or flatuous.

Your gut microbiome is a massive ecosystem made up of trillions of organisms such as bacteria, yeast, fungi, and viruses that live in your digestive tract. All these bacteria means your gut is almost as diverse and dense as a rain-forest. .This is why the gut is now being treated as its own organ and how we recognise how vital these bacteria are to break down food and toxins, make vitamins and interact with our  immune system.

Taking a daily probiotic helps keep your balance right by populating the good guys and keeping the bad guys in check.

Things to remember when buying probiotics.

  1. MULTI STRAIN – Look for a multi strain probiotic – remember you have over 100 trillion bacteria in your gut and if your gut is slighty out of whack it will need a multi strain probiotic.
  2. ACTIVE AND LIVE – You need your probiotic to survive the journey to your gut. Check that your probiotic is live and that it will reach your gut ready to fight the baddies.
  3. TRIAL AND ERROR – It’s not a one brand fits all. We are all so different, the first brand you try might not work for you. Jump back on the horse and try something new.
  4. YOUR FOODS – Lots of our stables are probiotic foods – focus on plant diversity as well as your supplements.
